The 2021 symposium theme is "Our Legacy – Empowerment”, celebrating the 150-year anniversary of the State of Kansas’ authorization to develop an academic program that would empower women through a college education. In 1870, state administrators understood that women on the western frontier of the U.S. needed knowledge and skills to be able to support themselves and their families, to help their families thrive in challenging locations and to make their new frontier communities healthy and vibrant. Our department’s history is built upon some of the first courses taught for women at Kansas State Agricultural College, KSAC, the first operating Land Grant University created under the Morrill Act.
